Our Parenting Program provides therapy and parent skill development to individuals, families, and couples. Sessions can include art, verbal therapy, or EMDR as well as parent skills consultation. It is an opportunity to explore trauma, grief, loss and other life struggles in a supportive confidential environment.
This program welcomes parents and their children to socialize and meet new families and to learn more about Aboriginal parenting. This program consists of two full day programs and two evening drop-ins. The day program is comprised of a participant directed individual therapy session. Children are encouraged to attend the ECDs day programs. These families do much more than simply drop in they begin to build a social network, learn about community resources, and participate in singing as well as traditional drumming with their children. As families begin to attend on a regular basis, a connection is built and as a result alienation decreases over time. Transportation and free lunch is also provided, NOTE: Lunch is only provided to those who attend the daytime program and who have signed up with main reception (Main reception 604-584-2008). The teachings will be based on the four aspects of the traditional medicine wheel: mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. Topics include anger management, communication, coping skills, positive parenting and problem solving.
