Aboriginal Youth Mentorship and Reintegration Program

The Community Mentorship Program is run in partnership with Métis Family Services.

The Community Mentorship Program began in 2005 recognizing the void within our Aboriginal communities. The program works with highly dedicated and motivated community members who want to make a change in the lives of youth who have become “at risk”. The community Mentorship Program strives to deliver a culturally based program utilizing age-old methods of mentorship such as use of our traditional mentoring, storytelling, Medicine Wheel teachings, oral tradition, and creating a circle where people can talk and make change.

The mission of a Community Mentor is to work hand in hand, with a supportive community, to nurture, protect, and promote balance within families.

The program is designed for Aboriginal Youth 24 and under to get involved. Youth can be referred from a community resource, community agency, school and MCFD.

A mentor spends 3-5 hours per week with their youth for a minimum of 1 year. They provide support through life experience and mentor teachings. The mentor also empowers the youth by advocating and guiding them. Community Mentors attend monthly team building and support meetings.
